DID YOU KNOW?
Jesus called Himself “the son of man” and was condemned for it. But why would this enrage the priests and other Jewish leadership?
They were enraged because Jesus claimed to be the Eternal Ruler by calling Himself by this title. Jesus was referring to the vision of Daniel as shown here:
I continued watching in the night visions, and I saw One like a son of man coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was escorted before Him. He was given authority to rule, and glory, and a kingdom; so that those of every people, nation, and language should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and His kingdom is one that will not be destroyed. Daniel 7:13-14 (HCSB)
Jesus could call Himself “the son of man” because He is, in fact, the person described in Daniel’s account of his visions at night. Jesus refers to Himself coming on the clouds in Matthew 24, and it is also referred to in 1 Thessalonians and in Revelation.
“Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the peoples of the earth will mourn; and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.” Matthew 24:30-30 (HCSB)
For we say this to you by a revelation from the Lord: We who are still alive at the Lord’s coming will certainly have no advantage over those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the archangel’s voice, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are still alive will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and so we will always be with the Lord. 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17 (HCSB)
Look! He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, including those who pierced Him. Revelation 1:7 (HCSB)
But when Jesus said, “I and my Father are one.” He said that He and His Father are the same person. Just as John 1:1 tells us that Jesus is God and was with God in the creation of the world.
For in him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. Colossians 2:9 (KJV)
The “Son of Man” is Christ, your Savior.
