Looking Forward

by Keith Rothra | GOP News |

Now that the primary election is over it is time to look at where we are going as a Republican Party. Some people have a tendency to look backward to determine where they need to go. I am encouraging all Republicans to look forward and work together for a unified party and a victory in November.

Some have told me that their favorite Republican did not win the presidential primary. They even hinted at staying home in November for that reason. This is reverse vision and destructive not only to Republican victory, but to America as we know it. Failure of the Republicans to work together will result in a Democratic Party President who will advocate partial birth abortions, higher taxes, limiting free enterprise, and opposition to our entrepreneurial economy. Our military would be stripped and our foreign policy would be one of apologies and retreats.

Our nation has never gone to war because it was too strong; we have gone to war because we were perceived by our enemies as weak and irresolute. John McCain will not lead us down that destructive path, but will take us in a direction of strength and unity. The future is in the hands of the Republican Party. If we stay home we can only lose and forfeit our American ideals and traditions.

Locally, we need to begin voter registration. We need to involve the rank and file of the party membership in the work of the party. We need to make voting easier, but confirmable; that is, you can vote at any of the open voting locations, but only if you present valid picture identification.

We need greater voter involvement in the precincts and in the county headquarters. We will need volunteers in every precinct and at the headquarters for the November election. I will be looking for volunteers to lead special programs through the county party, such as a political rally for state-wide candidates in Gregg County before the November election.

There was a time when the Democratic Party was dominant in Gregg County. While they sat on their laurels and fussed over their divisions, the Republican Party grew and overcame their dominance. Today the Republican Party is dominant in Gregg County. We must not look at our history of success and become complacent, but must work together to continue to lead East Texas. The past belongs to those who continue to live there. The future belongs to those whose vision will lead them to it. Without forsaking the ideals we hold near and dear, let’s move forward and reach to a new generation.

Let’s look forward. Let’s move forward. Let’s work together to win an overwhelming victory for the Republicans in East Texas and be a leading part of a national campaign to regain Republican power on both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington.
